Yooka-Replaylee for Nintendo Switch

I was scrolling through my PlayStation Store wishlist last week and saw this pop up - “Yooka-Replaylee for Nintendo Switch for Ps4” - which made zero sense at first. Turns out it’s just a mislabeled version of the remastered Yooka-Laylee that actually came out on PS4. I’d been meaning to revisit the game after hearing people talk about how it felt like a lost 3D platformer gem from the early 2010s. So I grabbed it, and honestly? It’s one of those games where you remember why you loved platformers in the first place.

The good stuff

The visuals are a solid upgrade - textures are crisper, lighting feels more dynamic, and the world just pops. I remember the original had some rough edges, but here, places like the Bookkeeper’s Library or the Jungle Temple look like they were built for modern screens. And the soundtrack? Still killer. That orchestral remix of the main theme hits different when you’re mid-leap over a crumbling bridge. The map system is also a real game-changer - no more wandering around blind trying to find a hidden path. Plus, the new currency lets you unlock cosmetic upgrades for Yooka and Laylee, which sounds small but makes you feel like you’re really building something. I spent way too long tweaking their hats and shoes just to see what the heck they looked like in action.

The not-so-good

It’s not perfect. The controls still feel a little floaty, especially when you’re trying to land precise jumps. Some of the collectibles are buried so deep in obscure areas that you’ll need a walkthrough unless you’re obsessive. Also, the game doesn’t add much new content beyond the remixes and tweaks - it’s more of a quality-of-life overhaul than a full sequel. If you’ve never played the original, you might miss the charm because there’s no real tutorial. And yeah, the name “Yooka-Replaylee for Nintendo Switch for Ps4” is a mess - don’t let that confuse you. This isn’t a Switch port; it’s just a PS4 version with a weird title.

Bottom line

If you liked the original Yooka-Laylee, this remaster is definitely worth your time. It’s got the same whimsical energy, better polish, and a few smart upgrades that make exploring fun again. But if you’re new to the series and don’t care about nostalgia, you might want to skip it. It’s not a groundbreaking game - but it’s exactly what you’d want from a love letter to a classic. For $20, it’s a solid pick for fans. And yes, it’s available on PS4.
