WP Custom Avatar for WordPress

It’s super barebones. Like, literally just upload an image and pick it. No cropping tools, no size presets, nothing. I had to resize my image beforehand because the plugin didn’t warn me about aspect ratio or file size limits. And there’s zero feedback when you upload something wonky - it just fails silently. Also, no way to preview it in context before saving. You just have to trust it’ll work. And since the developer’s unknown, no idea if it’ll get updates or stay secure long-term. If you're running a big site with tons of comments, this might not be the most reliable choice.

If you just want to replace those default avatars with your own image and don’t need anything fancy, WP Custom Avatar for WordPress is free, simple, and gets the job done. It’s not going to win any design awards, but it solves a real annoyance fast. Skip it if you need advanced controls or worry about support. But if you’re low-key trying to make your blog look less like a 2005 forum, give it a try. Worth the two minutes it takes to set up.
