Sidekick - Download

I’ve been using Sidekick - Download for Mac for a few weeks now, and honestly? It’s the first browser I’ve used in years that doesn’t make me feel like I’m drowning in tabs. If you’re constantly switching between Slack, Notion, and Telegram while also juggling a dozen work sites, this might be your lifeline. It’s not flashy, but it just works-especially if you’re tired of Chrome eating up your RAM.

The good stuff

The web app integration is actually useful. I added Notion and Slack as standalone apps inside Sidekick, and boom-you can open them without launching a whole new window or context switch. No more “wait, which tab was that?” nonsense. It feels like having lightweight desktop versions of those tools, but they’re still just websites. And it’s fast. Like, noticeably faster than Chrome on my M1 Mac when I’ve got 30 tabs open. The search bar is dead center, and the shortcuts are easy to set up-just drag a site to the sidebar and go. I’ve got my most-used tools pinned like old-school bookmarks, but way cleaner.

The not-so-good

It’s free, so I get why some things are missing. But there’s no built-in password manager, and syncing across devices? Nope. You’re stuck with local storage unless you manually back up your data. Also, the UI is minimal to the point of being sparse-no custom themes or dark mode toggle (though the dark theme is baked in, so that’s fine). And yeah, the developer is unknown. That’s a little weird, but since it’s Chromium-based and open-source, it’s probably safe. Still, if you’re paranoid about privacy, you might want to double-check. Oh, and it doesn’t support extensions. So no ad blockers unless you’re doing something fancy. Not a dealbreaker for me, but worth knowing.

Bottom line

If you’re on Mac and want a browser that stays out of your way while keeping your workflow tight, Sidekick - Download for Mac is worth the download. It’s not for everyone-don’t expect Chrome-level polish-but if you’re all about efficiency and hate clutter, it’s a solid pick. Free, simple, and gets the job done. Give it a try. You might not go back to Chrome.
