I’ve been poking around PyScript - Download for Windows because I keep needing to write small Python scripts on the fly, and I was tired of setting up environments. It’s built to run in your browser, which sounds cool until you realize you still have to install something locally. The whole thing runs via web assembly, so it loads fast and doesn’t need a full dev setup. Honestly, that part works well - you can fire up a script, import pandas, and start mucking around without touching your command line.

The good stuff

The biggest win? No installation hell. You don’t need to mess with virtual environments or pip conflicts. Just open it, type some code, and boom - it runs. I used it to clean up a CSV file in under five minutes, and it handled numpy and pandas like they were nothing. The interface is simple - no clutter, just editor, console, and a few buttons. If you’re teaching someone basic Python or just want to play around, this is low-friction. And yeah, it’s free, which helps when you’re experimenting.

The not-so-good

But here’s the catch - it’s *so* browser-bound that it feels fragile. If your tab crashes, you lose everything unless you manually save to a file. There’s also zero customization in the theme system. I liked the black layout, but once I changed it, I couldn’t go back. And some browsers hog resources even with minimal use, which slows things down. Also, while it supports most common libraries, you can’t do much beyond basic scripting. Want to build a real app with GUIs or web frameworks? Not happening. This isn’t meant for serious work. Compared to PyCharm, it’s like using a notebook instead of a full laptop - fine for notes, useless for coding a project.

Bottom line

If you’re looking for a no-strings-attached way to run Python in your browser on Windows, PyScript - Download is fine for tiny tasks. But don’t expect anything robust. It’s not a replacement for a real IDE. Stick with it only if you’re learning or doing one-off scripts. Otherwise, go for something more solid like VS Code with Python extension - it’s free too, and way more reliable.
